The French Academy of Science rewards chemistry at the heart of the issues in our society

Each year, the Academy of Science awards about 80 prizes in all scientific domains, both fundamental and applied. On this day, under the dome of the French Science Institute,  the whole scientific community, ambassadors, benefactors, representatives of large research organizations, elected representatives from France and abroad as well as the representatives of the industrial sector are united in order to  reward the most promising and talented scientific work.

The Prize awarded to the Fédération Gay-Lussac

The prize for “Chemistry at the heart of the issues for our society” was awarded to Anne-Marie Caminade from the Laboratoire de chimie de coordination à Toulouse (LCC-CNRS). She created phosphorus dendrimers, which are large highly-branched molecules, also called « molecular trees ». Modifying the terminal functions of these (equivalent to the leaves of a tree) leads to properties that can be exploited in different domains such as catalysis, nanomaterials and health (2 start-ups have already been created as a result of this research). This prize, the result of a Federation-Gay-Lussac initiative, was awarded the first time in 2022. It rewards a researcher, teacher-researcher, engineer or an engineer in research and development working in a laboratory, company or research center in France.
